Introduction
Hello, good evening and welcome; probably the most overused introduction that madness ever came up with; It’s the edge of 2023 and I welcome you to issue One of Complete & Utter Madness the Madzine.
So firstly let’s meet, I’m Darren Bowen, and I have been a hardcore fan and collector of Madness since ‘79, and over the last 40+ years, I’ve found no cure; no matter how much money I throw at my conspirators, it’s a white line.
So why this fanzine?
It’s a great way to share my love of Madness, talk about Madness, share the latest news and put it directly into your hands for consumption. The zine is kind of a digest version of A Mad Life and the last few months of the Madness Collective and you still get to participate.
Another reason is that, sadly, there is such a lack of involvement or collaboration and getting any level of participation from the thousands of “followers” we have is almost impossible unless you throw a few quid or a free prize into the conversation; otherwise, you can expect crickets. After a year, it’s time for a new approach!
It’s been several years since any such issue of a Madness zine landed on anyone’s doorstep. Sure, you can get up-to-the-minute Madness news online but there’s nothing like settling down with a good zine and giving yourself a break from a screen – even better you now own a physical piece of Madness history.
Finally to those zines that came before, saw and left…
• Madness Unsugged (Vince Carden)
• Nut Inc (Stuart Wright)
• Mad Not Mad (Ian Taylor)
• The Madzine (Terry Hawton)
Madzine magazine is a semi-professional and non-official publication for Madness and music fans. For those who love Madness, there is an opportunity for a new generation to experience the charm of a "Fanzine". Although the original fans from the 80s may be content with their past, this Madzine has a unique look, feel, and character that distinguishes it from other publications. Within its pages, readers can delve into the past with one-of-a-kind articles, in-depth research from the Madness archives, and exclusive never-before-seen photography designed to introduce all fans to a new world of Madness.
